Elevate Unity Benefit Concerts presents PJCE Records Double Release Event: Ryan Meagher & A Thousand Casts f/ Marilyn Keller and Ezra Weiss & Vanport’s Siren Song

Thursday, September 23rd, 2021
Doors open: 5:30 pm
Event begins: 6 pm
Event Ends: 9pm

Ryan Meagher is a jazz guitarist and composer who is perhaps best-known for his
compositional acumen. As a performer, he is also well-known for his flexibility and range. He is truly in his own space when exploring his thought-provoking original material with exciting and sensitive sidemen, but he has also accompanied a pool of incredibly diverse artists. He can lay down the traditional harmonic and rhythmic frameworks for vocalists like Rebecca Kilgore, trumpeters like Terell Stafford and Randy Brecker, and bassist John Clayton. But he can also stretch and provide color as he has alongside very adventurous artists like trumpeters Cuong Vu and Taylor Ho Bynum, bassist David Friesen and the pole-winning ensemble Mostly Other People Do the Killing.

RJCE Records is releasing two new projects and celebrating the release with performances.

A Thousand Casts features the unique instrumentation of acoustic guitar, vibraphone, trombone, and acoustic bass performing original instrumental jazz. Meagher’s project aims to tell the story of the steelhead trout, the angler, and the river itself. It’s a story of perseverance, about those that came before us, and about those that come after us. A professional fly fishing guide and steward of Oregon’s natural wonders will tell stories interwoven with the music.

Lyricist S. RENEE MITCHELL, vocalist MARILYN KELLER, and composer/pianist EZRA WEISS have collaborated to create a new song, “Vanport’s Siren Song,” as an addition to the From Maxville to Vanport suite, originally composed in 2018. They are performing the new piece and a set of related materials.

Our Mission: The Unity Benefit Music Series is a collaborative effort created from the necessity to support artists, reconnect our community, and promote Unity through the healing message of music!

Our focus is to advocate for social equality and address the need to support our local venues, production staff, restaurant workers, and musicians from the devastating effects of our industry shut down.

Description: This benefit music series will feature Portland’s top Soul, Latin & Jazz bands.

During the shows, we will spotlight positive tangible commentary from community activists, select nonprofits, and social equality advocates sharing ideas and strategies to unite our divided country.
