Trio Untold consists of Mike Nord (guitar, electronics), James Miley (piano, electric piano, synthesizer), and Ryan Biesack (drums, cymbals, percussion). This improvisational trio produced their album, Trio Untold, in 2018. Douglas Detrick, the executive director of the Portland Jazz Ensemble, wrote in the liner notes on the album, “As we press keys, as we strike drums, as we pluck strings, we send sounds shimmering into the air, ranging out like bees to hum and buzz in the ears of anyone who might be near… But even though music itself is older than language, the exchange between musician and listener is constantly evolving.” This trio’s music, improvised collectively, creates ephemeral moods ranging from exuberant to peaceful that reward an attentive listener. The intimate setting of the Gordon House will be a perfect environment to experience this organic, spontaneous music.

How fitting to experience that exchange of music and nature in a space designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to encompass the exchange between nature and architecture. Select Willamette students will also provide an accompanying concert, led by James Miley, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at Willamette. This event will take place in the early evening, with refreshments available. Tickets will be sold at $25 dollars per person, with different discounts available. VIP tickets will be sold at $75 per person. Students are encouraged to attend, and student tickets are $15 per ticket. Tickets must be purchased at the time of reservation. Reservations may be made online through our website, www.thegordonhouse.org.
