Ruminations, Kerry Politzer’s eighth album as a leader, is a collection of some of the pianist’s oldest and newest compositions. “Hay Ride” brings to mind memories of her Maryland childhood, while “Cudgel” is a tribute to the free-form recordings of Jimmy Giuffre, with whom she studied at New England Conservatory of Music. Other songs, “Persistent Memory,” “Saída,” “Faraway Dreams,” “Letting Go,” and the title track, “Ruminations,” are musical explorations of difficult emotions.
